Case 06: The Kingfisher Theft
Solution
To win, you must have:
- Named Hsun Wong as the thief.
- Explained that he stole The Kingfisher in order to protect members of his family who are still in the People's Republic of China.
- Said that the missing jade is no longer in Huxley and is probably halfway to Peking by now.
The Story
In 1948, Su Li Chen stole his family's jade collection and whatever cash they had on hand and ran off to America. When relations between China and the U.S. thawed, it became possible for his nephew, Hyung Lee, to be educated in America.
The Party decided it would be a good opportunity to have an American-trained specialist and to recover at least one of the five national treasures Su Li had stolen. They ordered Hyung Lee to locate The Kingfisher and arrange for it to be "reclaimed" by its rightful owners, the people of China. Hyung found the jade piece with no difficulty and threatened Hsun Wong into performing the actual theft.
