Case 07: The Killing of Sam Ferry

Solution

To win, you must have:

  1. Named Tyler Bishop as the murderer.
  2. Explained his motive by stating that Tyler held Ferry responsible for Tyler’s daughter, Sheree, becoming a drug addict.
  3. Stated that the contact lens found at the scene of the murder belonged to Tyler Bishop, proving he had been there.

The Story

Sam Ferry was an eligible, young bachelor who genuinely enjoyed women. Several months ago, Sam met Sheree Bishop at the Chop House Bar. They dated several times before Sam discovered that Sheree was into the whole drug scene. This turned Sam off and he stopped seeing her. Sheree was very upset over the rejection, and her father noticed. A month after they stopped going out, Sheree totally freaked out after free-basing cocaine. Tyler hit the roof. He was convinced that Sheree had started experimenting with drugs because Ferry had rejected her. No one who knew the truth wanted to be responsible for telling Tyler that his "little girl" had been playing with drugs for years. When Sheree had to be institutionalized, Tyler decided to kill Sam for what he had done.

One morning, Tyler removed Sam’s No. 2 wood while Sam and his golfing partner, Farley Perkins, were in the Pro Shop. At 9:20 A.M., Tyler went out to the sixth tee, knowing that Farley always went into the clubhouse to call his service at that time. Tyler knew Sam would be alone and out of sight. Tyler called to Sam, waving the missing club over his head to show Sam it had been found. As soon as he came within range, Tyler swung the club as hard as he could, smashing Sam in the left temple. The shock of the blow jarred one of Tyler’s contact lenses loose and it fell to the ground near Sam’s body.

Tyler became a totally broken man when he learned at his trial that Sheree had been abusing drugs for years, and that Sam hadn’t caused Sheree’s problem, but had stopped seeing her because of it.
