Case 09: The Forbes Report

Solution

To win, you must have:

1. Named Tom Baders as the murderer.
2. Explained his motive by stating that Leroy Forbes had beaten and hospitalized one of Bader's girls and this was Baders' way of evening the score.

The Story

One night, a drunken Forbes picked up Tanya Hyde in a bar. After they had gone to her place, he turned surly and started yelling about his ex-wife, Leona. When Tanya tried to get rid of him, he turned ugly and beat her. Then he left without paying. A neighbor called the cops and Officer Pepper interviewed Tanya while they waited for the ambulance.

After she was admitted to the hospital, her pimp, Tom Baders, came by to find out who had worked her over. She told Tom it was some drunken bozo named Leroy Forbes. Tom really blew his top when he found out that Forbes hadn’t paid her. He told Tanya to keep the cops out of it and was furious when she told him it was too late for that.

On the day of Forbes' trial, Baders saw that Leroy was that crazy neighbor who jogged past his window at all hours of the morning. Baders told Tanya not to testify or he'd put her back in the hospital. Baders wanted to take care of Forbes himself.

Later that day, Baders spoke to Benny Bologna who told him Forbes jogged at 6 o'clock every morning on the quarter-mile dirt track at the Huxley College athletic field. Baders went over early Tuesday morning, took one of the baseball bats from the school's equipment locker and waited for that turkey, Forbes, to show up.
